Innovative Solutions to Complex Situations

The challenges

We are continually seeking outsized returns for the perceived risk being taken but these are difficult to achieve in the general, homogenous, and well serviced capital markets space.  To source such opportunities with operational companies is difficult and then even more so to execute an appropriately structured transaction and manage to a successful exit.  There is a need for a mixture of sector knowledge, local market understanding, access to additional management and service providers, strategic vision, and an in-depth appreciation of both private and public markets to ensure that further capital will be available to drive an investment to a successful conclusion.

This needs to be put in the context of a ‘fair deal for all’.  It is appropriate to consider not just the position a company may face now but where it is going.  Ensuring that all parties have their interests aligned for the whole of the journey is no easy feat.

Our solutions

We focus on the sectors that we have significant experience in, on companies that operate in large markets that can be disrupted, where the transaction has a significant degree of complexity, and we can identify further capital to back up our initial investment.  We leverage heavily from our global network of family offices and their operational experience; a broad base of individuals that we can introduce into the corporate governance structures and our continued interaction in the private and public capital markets.

The opportunities come from a vast array of global partners, and we are comfortable to work with others to drive a process forward.

Although Chrystal Capital has interacted with a significant number of Single Family Offices there is a select group that we are in constant dialogue with to firm our collective investment theses.  This then develops into a combined ‘go to market strategy’ that allows for the quickest possible execution.

Current investment thesis:

  • Complex Situations
  • UK or North America
  • Addressing Global ESG themes
  • A distressed underlying investor
  • An under invested company
  • Entry and exit multiple arbitrage

“Chrystal Capital came into a complex situation, where there were multiple competing interests. They negotiated a transaction that was good for all parties – the existing shareholders, management, and themselves. They helped to restructure the balance sheet and post the initial transaction brought in additional capital from their family office network. Since we became one of their portfolio companies they have assisted in strengthening the Board, brought in strategic operational partners and put in a clear capital markets plan. We look forward to a bright future together.”
